International Business Management (UBC, Vancouver Summer Program 2017/2018)
International Business differs in important ways from business conducted within national borders. It poses additional challenges but also offers new opportunities. This course provides a framework for analyzing decisions made by firms in an international context. The analytical framework provides a basis for formulating strategies that will enable businesses to succeed in the international business environment. The course combines material from strategy, international finance, trade theory, trade policy, marketing, and other related areas. We emphasize the use of analytical tools and concepts but provide many real-world examples. Course projects help students develop their research skills as well as oral communication ability. The course is integrative by design which leads to some overlap with material taught in other courses.

COEC 126: Data: Description, Display and Inference (UBC, Undergraduate 2015)
This course provides an introduction to the use of data and statistics to convey information on important issues of the world economy. It will have two main components. First, we will focus on gathering and communication. This involves understanding sampling and surveys, how to present data in useful and concise ways, and how not to be fooled by misleading presentations of data. Once we examine data, it is natural to ask questions such as, “Was average annual trade between Canada and the US really different after NAFTA or are the differences we see in the data just arising from typical randomness in the data?” Answering questions of this sort is referred to as inference, which constitutes the second main component of the course.
